The mission of Carolina Canines For Service, Inc. is possible only through the support of individuals, community service organizations, corporate sponsors, grants, and fund-raising activities.

Programs of Carolina Canines include service dog training in Wilmington and Myrtle Beach, SC, Carolina Canines for Veterans at the Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, Carolina Canines for Therapy, Paws for Reading and Domestic Violence Animal Assistance; all provided at no charge to the community.

All contributions are tax-deductible as allowed by law.

Carolina Canines for service relies strictly upon volunteers who share our mission to keep this program working. Volunteers are needed in a variety of areas as described below. Please consider offering your time and talents to help us make the dream of independence a reality for people with disabilities!

Office Assistant
Assist with a variety of office tasks including preparing mailings, packing brochures, organizing office files. Opportunities are Monday - Friday between 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., depending on the needs of the office. Must be 18 years of age, some computer skills needed and should have some office experience.

Foster Puppy Trainers
Individuals, couples or families to raise a foster puppy in their home for up to 24 months and provide initial training through participation in training classes with Carolina Canines for Service. Expenses occurred in the care of training a foster puppy are tax deductible. (CCFS is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.)

Fund Raising Activities
People to assist in all types of fund-raising activities to include planning and organizing major events and participation in local community events (festivals, fairs, etc.).

Carolina Canines for Therapy
A comprehensive training program for people and their dogs to become registered Carolina Canines for Therapy teams to volunteer in the community visiting hospitals, nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, library reading programs and school reading programs.

The Carolina Canines for Therapy course is designed to provide an active hands-on participation teaching the skills needed to make for successful visitation once registered. Each team must participate in the course and successfully complete an assessment prior to registering as a Carolina Canines for Therapy team.

A Job for Arabella tells the story of Arabella, a rescued pound puppy. Arabella is chosen to become one of a select group of dogs—those with the special job of helping people with disabilities. Young readers will follow Arabella as she grows from an inquisitive puppy to become a strong, dependable dog. With help on her journey from her first trainer, a high school student named Caroline, Arabella learns the skills needed to perform rudimentary tasks. Later Arabella undertakes additional challenges and strings new commands together with early ones in order to help with household needs. After Arabella has learned all of her tasks, she must undergo a final test in order to determine whether she will earn her placement as a service dog, the job that she has dreamed of for so long.

Written by Carolina Canines staff member Pat Nowak, A Job for Arabella will enlighten readers of all ages on the important role of service dogs. The fifty-six-page chapter book includes illustrations by Mary Alice Baumgardner. All proceeds from the sale of the book benefit Carolina Canines for Service, Inc.
